We practiced buddy reading this week as a way to increase our reading fluency.
We talked about reading AND checking for understanding so that the students were responsible for actually listening to their buddy read.

Then we practiced reading with our reading buddies.

I assign the reading partner to take the guesswork out of who will be working together. Ask your child who they read with!

We also have packets with poems or short stories that

we use each week to practice our fluency.

We also spent some more time this week working on roles at home, at school, and in the community

Students did a T-chart of different roles and what they do for them.

Another reading focus for the week was reviewing making inferences.

We know that an inference is using what we know plus text clues to make a good guess.

The students chose a picture and used the prompts "I observe" and "I wonder" to make an inference about what was happening in the picture.

In spelling we played "Guess my word". I gave clues to the word that I chose from the word wall and students had to write their guess on their desk! There were 4 clues so the kids had to change their guess as I gave more clues.
