Writing
Our focus this week has been on writing a paragraph. We've practiced doing "stoplight" paragraphs with a main idea sentence, 3 supporting details, and a closing sentence. The kids also made "hamburger" paragraphs that had the outside buns with 3 supporting details inside.
We will use our paragraph writing skills to write letters to family and friends next week. We will really mail these letters out, so if you haven't sent in addresses yet, I'd love to have them!

In small groups we have worked on characterization. The focus is to discuss how the character acts or feels not just describing what they look like.
For our research the students have chosen a Winter Olympic sport to research. They are going to make a poster for how many people are on a team, what equipment is needed and what the rules are for their sport.
We have also touched on comparing the Olympics and the Paralympics as well comparing the Olympics now and in the past.

Math
We started our unit on fractions this week! We have been discussing how to write fractions, equivalent fractions, and comparing fractions. This is an introductory unit so that they can go deeper into the concept of fractions in 3rd grade, but the class is doing a wonderful job with it!
